For the Collateral Damage blog tour, I’ve interviewed J. T. Cheyanne!
Welcome to B. A. Brock Books, J. T.!
Hi Brock! It’s great to be here with you and your readers today. Thank you for hosting Collateral Damage during the blog tour. I’m looking forward to answering your questions.
When did you write your first book, and how old were you?
I wrote Ocean’s Kiss in 2012. I was, let me do the math. Oh geez, I was 41 when I wrote that one. My first LGBT novel, Grand Slam, was published in 2013, and I had a birthday between the two.
What would you say your writing genre is?
LGBT fiction. I write both contemporary and paranormal under that genre. They are all HEAs so far because I like a happy ending.
How long does it take you to write a book?
It depends on the voices. I write when they talk. The books I write with V. L. usually take longer because we have a time difference to deal with, as well as, working full time jobs. Grand Slam and Ansleigh’s Grotto were fast writes. All time totaled, they probably took about 4 weeks each to write. Collateral Damage was started in 2013, but other voices were louder so it was put off.
What does your family think of your writing?
My wife writes with me so that’s a huge bonus. Our children are all supportive. Our daughter has read almost all of the ones we’ve written. My mom has read Grand Slam, Love Life & Circumstance, and Broken Oaths, but she skips the sexy scenes. My dad has all of my books. He’s the reader like me.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That I could write! No joke. I have always loved to read. I’ve been reading since elementary school, everything I could get my hands on, even if it wasn’t age appropriate. In 2011, I was invited to join a roleplay group on Facebook. At first, it was an already established character, but then there was a need for an independent. The independent caught the attention of an author who set me on the way to being published.
Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Because I started out in roleplay on Facebook, I have a lot of readers that are also friends. They have been so loyal and supportive. They love seeing the characters that started in roleplay on the pages of a book. Most contact from new readers has been very positive. We have had some bad reviews, and I read them all. There is going to be someone unhappy with the books we write and that’s okay. Everyone has different opinions. Thankfully, we have never received anything hateful.
What kinds of books do you love? Any recommendations?
My Heavens! I read a lot, in a lot of different genres. I’ve read some of every thing I think. I am a huge fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. I also enjoy the Maker’s Song series by Adrian Phoenix. Hmm, okay a short list, maybe. Stripped Bare by Susan Mac Nicol; Him by Sarina White Bowen and Elle Kennedy; Love the Sinner, Avril Ashton; The Honky Tonk series by Rain Carrington; the In Death series by J.D. Robb; The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison; The Rowan series by Anne McCaffrey; Ender’s Game (and series) by Orson Scott Card.
As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
An English teacher. It didn’t happen, but I’m ok with it.
That was fun! Thank you again for having me here today. I’ve enjoyed our visit. Are there any good books you can recommend to the rest of us?
Thanks for stopping by, J. T. And heck yeah, I have recommendations! Check out the rest of my website for my reviewed books (I don’t usually review anything less than four stars), and I have a favorite authors list! http://www.babrockbooks.com/favorite-authors/
